As we mentioned in our previous post, HOF recently showcased the Indian civilization at the prestigious ‘Brera Design District Milano 2016’ which was held at Milan, Italy. We happily launched the DOAB family of sofas on this esteemed platform.
Our Design Director, Mann Singh was successful to employ this event’s theme ‘Design is thinking’ through demonstrating the unique DOAB family of sofa sets. These contemporary and fresh pieces of furniture have some specific characteristics. Like the conventional ones, they are not made of any exotic materials.
Instead, we went in our neighborhoods to find the materials which can present our legacy and culture. We visited our neighbor villages, met some weavers and asked them about a fabric which has an Indian touch. And what did they come up with? Khadi! Of course, it was the course of vision Mahatma Gandhi saw for the future of humanity.
Another material we used are Laathi baans (bamboos). While designing and structuring these sofas, our focus was to use minimum electricity. That is why, these bamboos are machined only at the joints while structuring. The Khadi also is a hand-spun and handwoven denim which again requires no electricity. We also replaced foam in these sofas by the natural fibers, where possible. Point to be noted here is that all these materials have been sourced from the nature and from within 80 kilometers radius of the HOF factory.
This DOAB family of sofas has key characteristics of high performance and high efficiency. These qualities have been achieved by these two special materials – Khadi and bamboo. It is designed in a way that there is a minimal wastage of any material. Apart from this, the upholstery of these furniture pieces has handmade brass buttons. By undoing them, the upholstery can be removed and washed or changed. This gives the sofa an extended life.
Lastly, we would like to let you know about an outstanding response we received for our DOAB sofa is Milan. You can soon have a look to this piece at HOF showrooms in India.
