Have you ever been annoyed by the squeaking sound of your colleague’s chair at office? If yes, then you must know how irritating it is! It can be a nuisance and disturbance for both, the one who is sitting on that chair and for others. But if it is making noise, that doesn’t mean that you need a new one! Multiple reasons may cause squeaking, and it can be easily fixed. Here are some tips to fix the squeaking:
Check all the bolts and fitters.
The first thing you can do is just turn over your chair and check all its parts. Take a screw driver or a wrench and tighten the loose nuts and bolts and even those which don’t seem loose, just to be sure they don’t loosen-up in the recent future!
Grease the mechanisms of all its parts.
If the bolts or screws are not properly lubricated, they may lead to squeaky sound. The moisture in the air causes rust and hence, it is necessary to properly grease all the nuts, bolts, screws and hinges. Spray a good-quality lubricant to every mechanism of your office chair and let it dry. You can also spray it on a soft cloth and rub it on the problematic parts.
Before applying any lubricant, remove all the screws and bolts.
Remove all the nuts, bolts and screws and then apply a lubricant to the chair mechanisms. If it continues to squeak even after adding the lubricant and tightening all screws, take all of them out again. Keep them in a light machine oil for a long time before putting them back on. Once they are properly greased, they wouldn’t cause squeaking.
Ask somebody to be seated on the chair while applying a lubricant.
Tell somebody to sit on the chair and swivel it. As it’ll be swiveled, it would make noise and you can easily find out the problem areas and apply the lubricant. Once you apply it, tell that person to swivel it again and again. Keep applying that oil until the noise doesn’t vanish completely.
Keep a practice of gently sitting down on the office chair.
To make your office chair last for a long time, use it gently. Practice sitting down gently, without putting unnecessary pressure on it because falling or jumping onto the chair will eventually make it squeak in no time!
As you spend so much of time every day on your chair, it goes through a lot of wear and tear. But if you take care of it properly, you can prevent it from squeaking and help yourself and others at your workplace focus on work!
